“When I returned to Japan a few years ago, I had come to notice that it is almost impossible to get access to writings by Black radicals due to the lack of translations — with the exception of those by relatively known figures like Malcolm X, Baldwin and Du Bois.
My intent was to introduce radical ideas to people here in Japan that directly relate capitalism to systemic racism. American capitalism and its modern society was built by slavery that lasted for centuries, preceded by brutal genocides of indigenous Native Indian tribes across the continent. Opposition to capitalism in the United States is inherently a Black and brown struggle with the purpose of decolonization and Abolition.
Needless to say, Japanese people have always benefited from systemic racism. The cultural genocide against indigenous Ainu people in the northern territory of Hokkaido, as well as the implementation of brutal slave labor during the violent, imperial Japanese rule in East Asia / SE Asia draws a direct parallel to situations oversea, namely in the USA.
My long-term goal is to fully translate works by the revolutionaries featured in my posters. For the time being, I will be creating visual works to inspire Japanese comrades to fight against systemic racism which continues to uphold capitalist exploitations across the globe.”
